GBC's Approach

GBC is a Coalition of more than 220 companies united to keep the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria a global priority.  The Coalition’s members share learnings from the front lines of the fight, and GBC provides tailored support so that companies can take an active role in defeating the pandemics.   GBC also organizes collective actions among companies, and links the public and private sectors in ways that pool talents and resources.

We work in concert with others who are critical to effective action—governments, NGOs, and strong partners around the world.  Business brings creativity and innovation, and pivotal core competencies—expertise in areas such as media and public education; logistics and distribution; and health care management.

Our members also directly touch the lives of millions of people.  We reach our workforce, our customers, as well as public and private partners all along the supply chain.

Business recognizes the threat these diseases pose: to workforce, socioeconomic stability, community well-being and vitality.  Business also knows that action is expected of them: It affects the quality of the talent they attract, their brands, their customers.

Business turns to GBC to provide leadership and support to ensure they realize their potential in this fight, and maximize their impact.

INFORMATION ON JOINING GBC

Membership in GBC is designed to strengthen work by businesses to defeat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, with consultation services to assess member needs and devise action plans; proven tools and access to best practices to ensure strong execution; and structured opportunities to consult and collaborate with NGOs, local partners, governments, and other businesses. GBC also provides a rigorous means for members to evaluate their programs, a framework for both benchmarking and objective assessment of how well companies are meeting their own goals.

Beginning in 2008, GBC will work with member companies to form global teams to devise and deliver “Impact Initiatives.” These teams will coordinate a strategic mix of multiple private-sector players together with appropriate NGO, government, and local partners focused on a clear, high-impact objective. This new core GBC program was created at the behest of members, who believe that cross-functional, multiplepartner collaborative programs are critical to evolving business action to a higher, results-intensive level.

GBC’s reach is global, and includes representing the private sector to the Global Fund.

GBC works one on one with all new members to match GBC tools and resources with individual company needs. For more information or to consult with GBC about how membership can benefit your organization:

The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria was rated sixth in a survey of nearly 500 NGOs in a Financial Times report that assessed the value of business partnerships with NGOs and the United Nations.

GBC's rank is based in part on the organization's capacity to successfully implement programs as well as its overall adaptability and accountability to its private sector partners. The ranking highlights the fact that members and other stakeholders regard GBC as a particularly easy organization to work with. GBC scored highest among all organizations for program execution and was cited for its exceptionally strong ability to organize and execute complicated corporate partnerships – ones which surpass expectations and effectively leverage its widely-recognized best practices standards in the private sector fight against HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria.

Out of the top 20 rated organizations, GBC had the lowest budget by over half.
