Vice President & Regional Director - Southern Africa

Based in Johannesburg, the VP & Regional Director of Southern Africa will be responsible for our overall operations in this important region.  This high-profile position will require close working relations with senior business, government, civil society leaders and representatives of the international community. The highest priority for this position is to catalyze and support the mobilization of businesses in the design and implementation of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria initiatives, in concert with key international and local partners. 

Implicit in this role is representation of the GBC at both national and international levels, advocacy and assistance to increase business response to the epidemics, and provision of support and services to member companies in the region. This VP & Regional Director will also lead recruitment of new GBC member companies and lead meetings and events for both member and non-member companies.


Global Fund Private Sector Focal Point

On behalf of the Private Sector constituency engaged with the Global Fund, GBC is recruiting a policy director to act as Global Fund Private Sector Focal Point, a senior policy position with the primary responsibility to ensure the effective engagement and representation of the private sector on the board of directors of the leading global funding agency for AIDS, TB and Malaria.

The Private Sector Focal Point works closely with the elected Private Sector Board Member (currently Mr. Rajat Gupta of McKinsey, also Chair of the Global Fund board), his Alternate Board Member (currently Dr. Brian Brink of AngloAmerican) and the GBC team to expand the private sector role in the Global Fund partnership and support its board of directors.


Development Director/Vice President

The Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GBC), the pre-eminent business organization leading the business response to these epidemics, seeks candidates for the position of Development Senior Consultant/Director/Vice President.  


Global Programs and Partnerships Volunteer Position

This volunteer opportunity is for a part-time basis and is primarily administrative. It will provide support to the Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice President, Global Programs and Partnerships. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about the global health field through the administrative and research tasks, as well as through staff meetings, brown bags, and special presentations. There is a small stipend that covers transportation and food costs.


 

Internships

General Information
GBC welcomes applications for internships from qualified undergraduates as well as graduate students and those between degrees.

We are looking for applicants primarily who are students of health policy, public policy, international and public affairs, business, communications, economics and political sciences. We choose those who we believe to be the most suitable candidates, based on their academic work, extracurricular activities, employment and experience through travel or voluntary work. Fluency in more than one language is highly desirable in a candidate.

Intern Responsibilities
Internships are offered in each of the following departments: Communications & External Affairs, Corporate Strategies & Member Services, Knowledge, Evaluation and Performance, Policy & Research, and Executive Office. The responsibilities in these areas are outlined in more detail on the following pages.

Time Commitment and Stipend
GBC accepts intern applications year-round, however we only hire for 3 sessions: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Below is an outline of the dates for each session and when applications will be reviewed for those sessions. We will make exceptions on scheduling in the case of exceptionally qualified candidates or in the case of school mid-term and finals exams for students enrolled in classes. We also offer the opportunity to extend internships from one session to another, based on performance in the first session.

Schedules may vary, but full-time interns are expected to work 40 hours per week and part-timers work 8-20 hours per week. Candidates may need to work flexible hours since events and project activities vary throughout the year and are not always predictable.

GBC offers a stipend of $200/week for full-time interns only. Course credit or supplemental grants may also be available, so please check with your University’s Director of Career Services.
